Your first session
This page assumes you have installed Weaver and signed in to at least one agent.
1. Start a task
Section titled “1. Start a task”A task is a session that works in a project folder. Start one in either of two ways:
- Click New task in the sidebar, or press ⌘N. Pick an agent in the New task with… list.
- Click the + next to an agent’s icon in the agent row. This skips the agent list.
If you set a suggested agent in Settings, it is preselected in the list.
2. Pick a project
Section titled “2. Pick a project”The project picker opens with the heading new Agent session in…. You have three choices:
- Pick a project from the list. The list holds every folder you have used or added, newest first. Type to filter it. By default the last project you used is preselected and marked “last used”.
- Use an existing folder. This opens a folder browser that starts at your home directory and hides dot-folders. It browses the machine running the daemon, not the device in your hand, so it works the same from a phone. Click Use folder to add it.
- Start from scratch. Type a short name and click Create. Weaver creates a new empty folder with that name in
~/Documentson the daemon’s machine.
A project does not need to be a Git repository. Some features, such as worktrees and the Local Changes view, need Git.
If you only want to ask a question, without a project, use Chat (⇧⌘N) instead. See Projects and worktrees.
3. Write the prompt
Section titled “3. Write the prompt”The session opens with an empty composer. Before you send:
- The configuration chip in the composer shows the agent’s model and options. See Models and thinking.
- Type
@to reference a file,#to reference another session, and/for commands. See Slash commands and references. - You can attach files and images.
Press Return to send. Press Shift+Return for a new line.
4. Watch it run
Section titled “4. Watch it run”Opening a session does not start the agent. The agent process starts when you send, or slightly earlier, while you type. The session row in the sidebar shows the session’s state, which the daemon computes:
| State | Meaning |
|---|---|
| starting | The agent process is starting. |
| running | The agent is working on a turn. |
| waiting | The agent is blocked on you, for example on a question. |
| idle | Ready for your next message. |
| error | The turn failed. The reason is shown in the session. You can send again. |
| stopped | Ended by a stop or a shutdown. Sending again restarts it. |
See Sessions for details.
The agent works without asking for permission. Weaver runs Claude Code with permissions bypassed and Codex with no approval prompts and no sandbox. The agent can edit files and run commands in your project without confirmation. Use a project you are willing to let it change. See Agents.
5. Read the result
Section titled “5. Read the result”The transcript streams the agent’s reply as it arrives. Tool activity is shown in one of two modes:
- Edit-only (the default) keeps file edits visible and groups other activity.
- Verbose shows live progress and every tool call with its details.
Change this in Settings → General → Chat history → Agent activity. The choice applies to every client connected to the daemon.
The inspector on the right has more:
- Changes lists the files the agent changed. By turn groups them by the turn that made them. Local Changes shows the project’s current Git working tree.
- Files browses the project.
- Terminal opens a shell in the project.
Toggle the inspector with ⌥⌘I and the sessions panel with ⌥⌘L.
6. Send while it runs
Section titled “6. Send while it runs”You can type while a turn is running. When you send, the message is handled in one of two ways:
- Follow-up holds the message and sends it after the current turn ends. This is the default. Settings calls it Queue.
- Steer sends the message into the running turn. Only agents that support steering offer it.
While a turn runs, ⌃F switches the composer to Follow-up and ⌃S switches it to Steer. Then send as usual. Set the default per agent in Settings → Chat & Composer → While busy.
To stop a turn, click Stop. The current turn stops at once and the session stays open. Pressing Esc while the agent is working asks you to confirm before it interrupts the turn.
7. Come back to it
Section titled “7. Come back to it”The session stays in the sidebar under its project. Use the filter menu (All, Running, Needs you, Archived, and Todo) to narrow the list, and ⌘K to search. Press ⌥⌘N to start another session with the same agent and project.
To continue the work with a different agent, or to branch from an earlier turn, see Sessions.
